mythtv updates keep overwriting /etc/mysql/conf.d/mythtv.cnf

Post by mtbdrew » Wed Jun 24, 2020 3:22 pm

Running Ubuntu 20.04 with Mythtv 31 and have edited the /etc/mysql/conf.d/mythtv.cnf file to remove the # before:
bind-address=0.0.0.0

So my remote frontends can connect. unfortunately every time there is a mythtv update this file is getting overwritten and my FEs and BE no longer can connect to the database.

This is what it should look like.
wes@mythfe0:~$ cat /etc/mysql/conf.d/mythtv.cnf
[mysqld]
bind-address=::
max_connections=100
wes@mythfe0:~$
This one was just updated yesterday.
wes@mythfe0:~$ ll /etc/mysql/conf.d/mythtv.cnf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 45 Jun 23 15:51 /etc/mysql/conf.d/mythtv.cnf
wes@mythfe0:~$

Years ago, I had the same problem as you do. My solution was to add xmythtv.cnf to the dir with the bind address of 0.0.0.0 and being the last in the dir, it was the last bind address used, and never overwritten.

So does the bind-address=:: give the same results as having bind-address=0.0.0.0

If the above doesn't work then I can try the xmythtv.cnf file option next, thanks

:: = 0.0.0.0 for IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.

Okay thanks I will try that and see if it stays or gets over written as well.

Make sure you've set the BE setup to allow for remote connections. I'm pretty sure there's a setting in there for it somewhere.

Already did that so my two remote FE could connect, everything works fine until the file gets over written ;o)

Well it didn't overwrite the setting after today's update so I would say the issue is resolved. Thanks everyone.

Hopefully, the meant "didn't overwrite the setting".
