I don't see any information regarding interlacing

You're not running the default theme

Mythtv-Center 1.4 or wide 1.7 at least till you get the interlacing data then you can switch back

The only time I can get de-interlacing to show is if I switch to MMAL decoder only profile. The it reports Deint : GLSL Line..... However the video is unwatchable because of tearing.

Okay, something has changed somewhere and I no longer see anything in the Deint: field except None.

With that said I tested LiveTV for 1080i (1920x1080@30hz) and 720P (1280x720@60) OTA ATSC mpeg2 programs. They worked just fine. I also tested m4v H.264 videos from my library.

I went back to my Video settings and deleted what I had in there and created a new profile called 'jfa' and used only one entry.

Decoder: v4l2 decode only
Max CPUs: 4
Deblocking Filter: checked
Video Renderer: OpenGL YV12
Deinterlacer quality (single rate): low quality
Prefer OpenGL deinterlacers: checked
Prefer driver deinterlacers: checked
Deinterlacer quality (double rate): low quality
Prefer OpenGL deinterlacers: checked
Prefer driver deinterlacers: checked

I'm using a computer monitor so it's not exactly 1080p. It's something like 1900x600 or so.

That's about all I know.

Tried that setup too and get the same results i.e. definite interlace lines in the TV recording playback. My movies from library play fine.

Another issue is the screen wizard locked the FE completely as soon as I try to start it.

Do you happen to know why they went away from the "Open" profile?

For what it's worth. I don't use my RP3B+'s anymore for Mythtv frontends since I started using FireTV 4K sticks with Leanfront or even mythfrontend. It's a cheaper solution and works better. A solution for FE with RPI is going to be at least $50 and you can get a FireTV 4K stick for $25 when it's on sale.

Since all our TV watching is from 2 sources: Mythtv for recording OTA programs, streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, or Youtube.TV, The FireTV 4k Stick does them all.

However, I do use an RPi4 for a combo frontend/backend for my camper when we travel.

That is an interesting option especially with Prime video and Netflix support. Personally I have been an diehard user of Mythtv for over 25 years but can't say I am impressed with the changes in v31. It seems like they have taken several steps backwards with this version. BE setup for listings is very convoluted and even the tuner setups is much less user friendly. I'm new to the Pi environment but the loss of the "Open" decoders seems to have really made the Pi 3 unusable.
I will take a look at the FireTV 4K thanks for the advise.

I went ahead an ordered the Firestick 4K due to the support for Netflix and Prime Video all in one unit with the other functions. This is for my wife's TV while I game so having one user-friendly device for her is important.

However for those who have the RPi3, I have found that LibreELEC with Kodi runs the Mythtv add-on beautifully on these units. This OS can extend the life of the RPi3 for those needing a remote FE.

Before Mythfrontend and Leanfront on FireTV 4K stick I also used LibreELEC on a RPi3B+ as a Kodi frontend with pvr-mythtv addon. It's amazing how good the video in LE is on the RPi3B+. It's not as good on a RPi4.

However, if I was starting fresh and needed all new hardware, I'd use a RPI4 4GB and a HDHR Quatro as a backend and FireTV 4K sticks as frontends. It would be the cheapest solution. I don't do any transcoding so the RPi4 as a backend does everything I currently use a mythbackend for. My test show no advantages over a big PC.
