[Solved] xmltv problem [deleting an unused channel]

Post by gregl » Wed Jun 17, 2020 1:06 am

I had Epix with a cable package I had from Spectrum. They removed it from the package, but when I try to remove it from the database it continues to show in the EPG. I also tried to use Mythweb, plus the channel editor, but nothing seems to work. Everything else seems to work fine.

Ubuntu 18.04
MythTV v31.0

Any suggestions welcome, Greg

I edited the Subject: if that's not what what was being asked, please correct it.

For a single channel, I prefer sqlitebrowser /home/mythtv/.xmltv/SchedulesDirect.DB
(or wherever your SQLite DB is located.) The above <assumes> you setup the grabber
as user mythtv. And that your login user has write permission on the DB.

From the Browse Data tab, select the channels table, find the row with your channel
number in the channum column. Then set the selected column for that channum to 0.
Click on Write Changes on the top row and exit the browser.

That will stop the downloading of new data. Depending on how much data there is in
the MythTV Guide, it could take up to 18 days for it to expire.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I ran sqlbrowser. The channels were already set to 0. I have tried every suggestion I could find on the internet and nothing seems to work.. Like I said in my OP everything seems to work except for this problem.. I mentioned I tried to use mythweb to edit the db but, when I chose save, nothing is deleted..
Thanks again

Do the entries (for the unwanted channels) continue to be updated? If you go 18 days
out, are the unwanted channels there too.

If that's not the answer:

Is there exactly one SchedulesDirect.DB file? locate SchedulesDirect.DB will
prove it. If setup properly, there should be one pointed to in ~mythtv/<source>/
.xmltv. No links/duplicates.

If running mythfilldatabase from the command line, then I'll also <assume> it's being
done as user mythtv. For that matter, I'm assuming the backend is started by
systemd and run as user mythtv.

Also, in mythtv-setup, use the channel editor and make sure the XMLTV ID is set
to an integer string, or empty. Not Innnn.json.schedulesdirect.org/. That will prevent
new entries from being added.

Thanks Bill, I finally got a chance to look at your suggestions and as it turned out it was that I had 3 SchedulesDirect.DB files.. I believe it happened when I originally set up the DB.. I have been running Mythtv for well over 15 years, but I'm a novice Linux user,so I make mistakes that a more seasoned user wouldn't..

Thanks again, Greg
