Overnight Hangs - How do you log to the backend server?

Post by jac1d » Fri Apr 05, 2019 3:43 pm

Now that I've for my Pi3 running Mythlight .29 working reliably for playback, I've noticed another problem. Every few days it is hanging. Last night around 3am it appears to have locked up.

I can't ssh to it but the TCP/IP stack is still up as it responds to pings.

Is there a quick way to have it log to the backend server so I can see what is happening?

Does Myth log through syslog? Would it be a simple matter of configuring rsyslog on the FE and pointing it to an rsyslog instance on the backend?

I recommend checking the power supply. The raspberry pi takes a lot of power and the normal USB charger may not be sufficient. When the voltage drops a rainbow pattern also displays on the screen, if you see that it also indicates you may need a better power supply.

If the raspberry pi is locking up so that even ssh does not work, it is not likely to be a MythTV problem.

The power supply should be ok but I can check with my voltmeter. It is the 2.5A supply included in the Canakit: https://www.canakit.com/raspberry-pi-3-starter-kit.html

Unless it is malfunctioning I believe that should be lots of juice?
