mark directory in storagegroup as readonly

Post by blubbersuelze » Wed Dec 05, 2018 8:32 pm

Is it possible to add a Directory/mountpoint into a storagegroup and mark it as read only?
So mythtv-setup didn't do a write test on the given Directory.

I have no idea why someone would want to do this, but just set it up as a normal storage droup, and once done just change permissions on that dir to read only. man chown, man chmod, if you want to do it via terminal.

it's really simple.
Mount a nfs/cifs or another type of remote share to view Videos/hear music from.
And your Login has only read access.

You don't need any shares for later versions of mythtv remotes. Yeah, I had to setup nfs shares 13 years ago when I started using mythtv, but that hasn't been needed for quite a while now. Upgrade to a newer version.

i am using v29.1 which is actually the newest release.

What do you mean with:
You don't need any shares for later versions of mythtv remotes.
I am talking about a Remoteshare i'm connecting to from the backend.

Here a symbolic structure of the Network connection:
SMB-Share (only read Access on share) -------(Network A)------ MythTV Backend -------(Network B)------ MythTV Frontends

To the original question, no. Internally, the storagegroup table has no read/write settings.

And to the statement after that: "So mythtv-setup didn't do a write test on the given Directory.":
You can ignore the error, as long as MythTV isn't expected to be able to write to that Storage
Directory.
