Kodi and Mythtv ?

Post by myth »

Hello,

Having trouble in getting Mythtv to work with Kodi. At first i thought they were incompatible with each other . Going through many posts on Google found this forum.

Kodi is working well but does not have the function to scan satellite channels like Mythtv does ( hoe i am right on that ).

So Mythtv would be a backend here as Kodi is frontend or not ? Would tv/sat channels be loaded in from Kodi or Myth ?

Ok, went to enable the kodi addon for Myth and i get :

Attachment below.

Using Ubuntu 14.04.

Thanks

Kodi is simply another frontend to mythtvbackend server.

Really need much more information on your configuration:
mythtv version ?
Are you running Kodi on the same machine as mythbackend or another machine ?
What is Kodi version ?

If you are running Kodi on another machine is mythbackend setup using a real IP address (not 127.0.0.1). By default mythtv-setup will assume same machine and not allow remote connections from another machine.

There a thread on the Kodi forum, which over a number of posts, lists things to check (note it was in relation to Ubuntu 16.04, you are running Ubuntu 14 so the stuff relating to systemd is not relevant) see here :

Hello MikeB2013,

Many thanks for replying.

Please except my apologies for not getting back to you earlier.

I made some screenshots and i think my mythtv version is 2.0.2.

Also will be runing Mythtv on the same pc as Kodi Krypton 17.0 alpha 4 , i think.

The ip at the moment for Kodi is the local one of 127.0.0.1.

One screenshot is telling me to look at the log for details and there i am lost.

Had a look at your thread in Kodi but i do not understand it , not even a wisker.

Many thanks.

PS - using Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS

Looks like your version of Kodi and pvr.mythtv are incompatible. pvr.mythtv at 2.02 is really old. I suspect you installed from Ubuntu repositories, these are way out of date. Kodi 17 is at Release Candidate level now.

Suggest you try the following in a terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/unstable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

This should get you the latest Kodi 17 build and pvr.mythtv.

Hello Mike,

Many thanks for the upgrade , looks like Kodi upgraded fine but Mythtv has stayed the same.

Again tried to enable the Myth addon but the same error as before.

Thanks again for helping .

Seems like pvr.mythtv addon has not been updated (probably due to a name change).
You need to uninstall the existing pvr.mthtv and install the latest version (kodi-pvr-mythtv).

So here goes with a terminal again (anything from # onwards is just my comment, don't type it):

sudo apt-cache search pvr # this will give you a list
sudo apt-get remove <name of pvr-mythtv from list> # something like xbmc-pvr-mythtv-cmyth

sudo apt-get install kodi-pvr-mythtv # current version

Can you also post the output of the following command, again in a temrinal, it will give the mythtv version information (I want to make sure you have a recent version)

mythbackend --version

Looks like xbmc-pvr-mythtv-cmyth is not installed so do i go ahead and install :

sudo apt-get install kodi-pvr-mythtv ?

I also ran that last command :

Code: Select all

reel@BM2LTSR66RBin:/media/hd/home/reel$ mythbackend --version
The program 'mythbackend' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install mythtv-backend
You will have to enable the component called
reel@BM2LTSR66RBin:/media/hd/home/reel$
Where do i enable 'multiverse' ?

Is this something to do with synaptic ?

Many thanks again.

Hello Mike,

I found out what 'multiverse' is , it´s a repository .

I was on the right path when i mentioned synaptic .

Once again entered into the terminal :

Code: Select all

reel@BM2LTSR66RBin:/media/hd/home/reel$ mythbackend --version
The program 'mythbackend' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install mythtv-backend
reel@BM2LTSR66RBin:/media/hd/home/reel$ sudo apt-get install mythtv-backend
[sudo] password for reel:
Reading package lists... Done

Depends: libmyth-0.27-0 (>= 2:0.27.0+fixes.20140324.8ee257c) but it is not going to be installed

reel@BM2LTSR66RBin:/media/hd/home/reel$
I don´t think you can install Kodi and Mythtv together .

Ok then, thanks for trying to help at least.

I will just have to find some other way of scanning tv/satellite channels into Kodi.

Best Regards.

The problem is you do not have MythTV installed you only have the "Kodi MythTV pvr client". MythTV is completely separate software. The "Kodi MythTV pvr client" simply allows you to access MythTV through Kodi, you still need to install and configure MythTV.

Install MythTV:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mythbuntu/0.28
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mythtv

then run:
mythtv-setup

Hello daraden,

Many thanks for helping here. I had begun to look for other ways of scanning in tv channels when google notifier said i had a new notification for this post .

On entering the sudo apt-get install mythtv igot :

Code: Select all

reel@BM2LTSR66RBin:/media/hd/home/reel$ sudo apt-get install mythtv
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
mythtv : Depends: mythtv-database but it is not going to be installed
Depends: mythtv-frontend but it is not going to be installed
Depends: mythtv-backend but it is not going to be installed

reel@BM2LTSR66RBin:/media/hd/home/reel$
I think we need a little magic .

Thanks for helping out.
