I need alot of help I bought a Hauppauge PVR 500. I am running Ubuntu 14.04. And I don't know what I'm doing. I've donwloaded the frontend and the backend from the software center. I can't get passed the terminal page of the backend.
I'm new to Linux and MythTV I would just like to be able to record my cable.
I'm mainly looking for the best step by step guide for setting up MythTV.
Thanks.
I have no idea what I'm doing.

have a look at the user manual in the wikihttps://www.mythtv.org/wiki/User_Manual:Index
the mythbuntu quick start guide gives you step by step instructions with pictureshttps://docs.google.com/document/d/19kn ... 60o4/edit#
if using the ubuntu packages check /etc/mythtv/config.xml for the database password. it is randomly generated on install.

The one at http://shoelace.altervista.org/index-2.php looks good.
Note that Ubuntu 14.04 uses "Upstart" whereas 16.04 has changed to "Systemd". You'll save yourself some grief by starting off with 16.04.
Unless you particularly want another flavour of Ubuntu, new users are recommended to install Mythbuntu, which eases Myth set-up. It can still be used as a desktop Linux machine. http://www.mythbuntu.org/home
