MKV - Matroska

Post by UKenGB »

Would I be correct in thinking that MythTV can happily deal with MKV files, i.e. can the back end store them and send to the front end to play and of course for the front end to actually be able to play them?

It may seem like an obvious capability, but I'm trying to share the media with iTunes, which as most will know does NOT do matroska and I'm thinking through the best way to deal with this. So if someone could confirm MKV is ok with MythTV, it would be much appreciated.

It works well for me. Anything from self created movies to DVD and Bluray rips in Matroska containers.

If you want iTunes integration, why not use an mp4 container (MPEG-4)? Both Myth and iTunes support that format.

Well yes, that would be the alternative, but does mean having to convert everything. I fully understand that this doesn't mean transcoding and just requires a change of the container to MP4, but it's a manual intervention step I was hoping to avoid. However it's the only alternative I can think of right now.

Thanks for the confirmation that MythTV can however use MKV.
