LIRCD issues

Post by mythfreak »

So I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 and mythtv 33. It was far from smooth as I had to revert the kernel to 4.15 so that my tuner works.
It also broke LIRCD to hell and back. Most of my buttons don't work although some do. LIRCD isn't even running. I installed the mythbunu-control-panel app and setup the streamzap there. I used to do a lot of things with irexec which isn't working.

To make matters worse, I use a harmony remote - or should I say - used to because things don't map properly.
I'm assuming that it-keytable is reading the config file and the streamzap.toml file is what mythtv is looking at? I used to use a ~/.lirc/mythtv file for mythtv.
I'm guessing that's not even being used?

I found this. Seeing that ir-keytable is the route going forward ... bye bye lirc.

What about irexec? What will I used to run scripts with the button push?

OK .... we're in business. After I un-installed lirc and tweaked a couple of commands, I'm back!

run scripts with the button push?
One option with ir-keytable is to assign the button to a key that is not used (unless you also want to be able to launch the script using the keyboard). Use the Ubuntu settings to assign the script to the same key.

I don't use an IR remote but this is also meant to work with them (& keyboards) :
https://manpages.org/esekeyd
https://github.com/burghardt/esekeyd

I've been using this great program for some years to control HT amp (USB serial) from multi-media keyboard.
The desktop manager can't interfere, Xorg can't interfere.
And the multi-media keys used in esekeyd can be hidden from desktop.
