No sound on Mythbuntu/optiplex frontend SOLVED

Post by miniyard »

Hi
I'm new to Linux
I have successfully set up a Mythbuntu 14.04.1 Backend/frontend combo
I an now trying to set up a Mythbuntu remote frontend on a Dell Optiplex 210L
I tested with the LiveCD and all worked fine but after installing the sound no longer works
When I try to play a recording (that plays faultlessly on the Badkend/frontend machine) there is no sound and the following message is displayed on screen:-

Disabling Audio
Audio Player
AOOSS:error opening audio device ():
eno:No such file or directory (2)

Any advice on solviing this please, greatfully appreciated

Extract form the frontend log below:

It appears as if MythTV is trying to use the OSS interface, please rerun the MythTV audio configuration and try with the ALSA interface.

went back to audio setup and it was set to ALSA default - did a rescan and noted that below were a load of ALSA alternatives so tried the first (ALSA:dmix:CARD=Intel,DEV=) and it worked
Set it back again to ALSA default and it still worked ??
Can only assume that the rescan fixed an issue from the first scan maybe?
Anyhow it's now working so thanks for the pointer
