I have compiled and installed v31 in opensuse tumbleweed but it does not detect any audio device. Tumblweed is up to date with kernel-5.12-rc2 and has the latest nvidia graphics driver. Sound is properly configured and works on everything but myth.
I can watch live tv, recordings, video files and dvds but there is no sound in any.
If I watch a myth recording in vlc I get sound so obviously myth can record video and audio but the frontend fails to play the sound.
I can't find anything similar here on the forum but has anyone any ideas?
By the way, in setup the audio device shows up as NULL and live display shows "audio disabled: device unusable/invalid".

Re: No audio device in v31
Just in case you have not done this yet.
In mythfrontend main menu, select Setup / Audio, and then the second option is "Rescan".
This then adds devices that can be selected on the first option, "Audio Output Device".
On my system this gives huge list of ALSA devices, e.g. "ALSA:default", "ALSA:hdmi:CARD=PCH,DEV=0" and many more.

Re: No audio device in v31
Maybe one or more dependencies are missing. You build from source as I understand it. Check the output of the "./configure" script.
Here it shows the following:
If you miss one or more of these then you need to install more libraries.
For Fedora and Ubuntu there is the Ansible procedure that does install them all, but for Suse you will need to do that all manually.
The dependencies are listed in https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Build_from_Source
Here it shows the following:
Code: Select all
# Sound Output Support
PulseAudio support yes
OSS support yes
ALSA support yes
JACK support default
libfftw3 support yes

Re: No audio device in v31
Thanks for the pointer, kmdewaal. I backed up all the mythtv folders and redid configure, make and make install. It all works as it should now and I can get rid of the backed up folders.
I did install a couple of extra alsa packages.

Re: No audio device in v31
If you're happy with the fix could you possibly added [Solved] to the subject line in the first post?
