When I tried to replay an episode of Winds of War it kept jumping back t the start.
I could force it forward again to the next scene but it became impractical.
I then found that it happened with every recording!
It had been fine up to a few days ago.
This version 29.0 on Ubuntu 18.04.01
Recording keeps returning to the start

Re: Recording keeps returning to the start
I should have explained that the offending frontend is on the same machine as the backend.
As this behaviour does not occur on a remote frontend, I checked its log.
I could not see anything suspicious.
I would like to uninstall the 'bad' frontend and reinstall it but unfortunately the version installed on Ubuntu does not permit a complete removal without taking the backend with it!
Is this now an Ubuntu problem?

Re: Recording keeps returning to the start
May win the 1st place for oddest thing seen (there is no prize.)
Possible keybinding/remote problem? Does it return exactly to the start of
the recording, or the same number of minutes? Does it happen after some
other keypress? Use a different remote/keyboard? Consider blocking any IR
receiver(s.)

Re: Recording keeps returning to the start
The default keyboard is an Rii wireless model. There is no IR deployed.
I detached the wireless receiver and plugged a bog-standard USB keyboard into the computer and tried again.
It makes no difference. The playback will advance a few seconds and flip back and repeat.
However, I reiterate this does not happen from a remote front end.
I have now found other problems with the back-end. A tuner is not working and recordings have not taken place.
It now seem unavoidable that a backup of my database might be required, followed by a complete uninstall and reinstall.

Re: Recording keeps returning to the start
I took a mythconverg_backup before uninstalling mythtv* via # apt remove.
I then went the extra mile, recompiled the tuner drivers against the latest kernel.
I rebooted, re-installed mythtv*.
I ran the backend setup.
Then ran the mythtv backend. Then the frontend and ran through its setup.
But the result is that none of my recordings will go more than a few seconds before looping again.
The backup will not restore because it says the database contains data but is that important?

For the backup restore see https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Ba ... g_database
Re: Recording keeps returning to the start
@pinnerite, yep, saw that it's only on the combined BE/FE, so that's the
reason for thinking about a remote problem (and we have had them
before, just not the rewinding case.)
The "It had been fine up to a few days ago" comment is of interest too. Could
suggest a DB problem and restoring from a current backup wouldn't help if
the backup was made before the problem started. Maybe an older backup
would help if the current one doesn't. I've never heard of a DB problem causing
what you're seeing.
You could run: sudo /etc/cron.weekly/mythtv-database (if you've got a file
like that.) It may exist elsewhere, like in cron.daily or myth...something-else.
I'd start the offending FE with --verbose playback (or even playback:debug) to
see if that produces anything of use if the log.

Re: Recording keeps returning to the start
Unfortunately I had to completely rebuild the system from scratch and then drop it until today.
Sorry, but thanks for your advice.
