projectx - what is it? Do I need it?

what is projectx? It seems be a java tool to cut commercials, but mythtranscode can do that, right?

ProjectX is quite good at cleaning up European over the air DVBT transmissions that were recorded with some signal interruptions and the like. However, you should be able to cut commercials without it, and I don't think it supports US over the air broadcasts in terms of being able to repair them either.

hmmm... so projectx does not work with atsc?
is there an alternative for US to projectx?
mythtranscode does a good job of cutting commercials, but a lousy job at "cleaning up".
