Wish: HbbTV on MythTV

Post by pjw65 »

Hallo all.

Because I could nothing find on Wiki / Forum / Tickets, I copy a unanswered question
from 2011 here...

For those of you who don't know what HbbTV is:

Providers can provide HTML content tailored for TV by transmitting the
according URL inside the AIT of the DVB stream.

The TV (several models of Sony, etc) or DVB receiver (eg Vantage VT1) then
displays the URL on screen upon pressing the red button on the remote
control.
It is possible to include video content in such pages or display the live
TV picture (either in the background or resized in a window).

So the providers may provide stuff like EPG, enhanced Videotext, VoD
offers, etc.

>From a technical point of view the following steps would be necessary to
have this functionality in MythTV:

* read the AIT from the DVB stream and check for URLs
* upon red-button key-event, display the URL (with Live TV picture either
in background or resized in the HTML-page. Maybe no live pic at all, only
audio. Resized display should be comparable to PIP or Live-View in
EPG???).
* Key-Events should then be handled by the displayed HTML-page instead of
Fullscreen-TV (eg cursor keys, OK, numbers, ...)

Is anybody already working on this?

How complicated do you estimate the development to be? Is MythTV's
modularity sophisticated enough to make it possible right now or will
changes to the architecture be necessary?

Thanks for your answers in advance!

Have you tried the interactive tv stuff we already have implemented?? It's MHEG not HBBTV, but there are a lot of similarities between the two, so it may be a matter of filling in the gaps.

I want to join this wish.
In germany a lot of the channels in DVB-T2 chanched to hbbtv: I can see the channel in the channel-list, but I can't receive any content, becaus the content is in internet.

Interesting! Here in The Netherlands the HBBTV has been mostly switched off about a year ago because everything is now being done with Android apps. Implementing HBBTV is certainly a non-trivial effort....

It's news to me but it seems the UK uses it the most

There is an emulator plugin for Chrome which would be interesting to test if any of the URL's extracted from the German DVB-T2 AIT streams can be displayed
