[SOLVED] Are Closed Captions supported on Android Mythfrontend?

Post by gedakc » Fri Jan 22, 2021 1:13 am

I installed the Android Mythfrontend file mythfrontend-20200716-arm64-v31.0-79-g89d1991ef2.apk on my 2017 NVidia Shield and the video playback quality is top notch. Kudo's to the developers.

While watching a pre-recorded TV show I tried pressing the "T" key on my attached USB wireless keyboard, but no Closed Captions (CC) were displayed. The TV show does contain closed captions and I confirmed this via Mythfrontend on a different computer.

Are CC supported, and if so how do I enable and access CC on Android Mythfrontend?

EDIT:
'Just discovered, installed, and tested Android TV Leanback Frontend and it does support CC. :-) I would still like to know if Android Mythfrontend supports CC.

I just figured out how to get Android Mythfrontend to support CC.

On my 2017 NVidia Shield, the default video playback profile mediacodec does not appear to support CC.

However if I change to the video playback profile OpenGL High Quality then CC is supported. :-)

I configured the video playback profile as follows:

Code: Select all

  Video
    Playback
Current Video Playback Profile: OpenGL High Quality
        -> Standard & OpenGL YV12
            Decoder: Standard
            Max CPUs: 4 # default was 2
            Deblocking filter: Enable
            Video Renderer: OpenGL YV12
            Deinterlacer Quality (SR): High quality
              Prefer OpenGL deinterlacers: Enable
              Prefer driver Deinterlacer: Disable
            Deinterlacer Quality (DR): High quality
              Prefer OpenGL Deinterlacer: Enable
              Prefer driver Deinterlacer: Disable
With these settings video playback is smooth and I can enjoy Closed Captions.
