Chromecast with Google TV?

Has anyone tried out a new Chromecast with Google TV with the various new Myth android frontends? Sideloading appears to be do-able so might be an alternative to a Firestick 4K or ShieldTV? I have no free HDMI ports so replacing an existing chromecast with this newer model is appealing.

Also, on android devices generally, do people find time stretch is usable? We have a habit of using 1.3 speed for some 'slow' news style content.

I have not tried it but did see a youtube.com video on installing Google TV on an Nvidia Shield TV to test it out.

It's side loaded just like the MythTV apps. If you're curious you can try it an then switch back.

I know this is rather late, but in case anyone is still wondering - yes, I have mythtv-leanfront running on my Chromecast with Google TV. High family approval factor - although still having some playback errors at times. But, Peter is moving very fast on the development. Great new things appearing each time I look.

... and also mythfronted-android. The leanfront experience is preferred by the family, but some things are just easier in a real mythfrontend (like the TV guide).

I've also installed Leanback frontend but having an issue with installing the latest mythfrontend-android. I receive the following error:

adb: failed to install mythfrontend-20210221-arm64-v31.0-138-g525e3b0bb4.apk: Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_NO_MATCHING_ABIS: Failed to extract native libraries, res=-113]

Any ideas what is causing this error would be much appreciated.

Oops, solved my own problem. Installed the arm64 version by mistake.

can any of you tell if either FireTV 4K or Chromecast with Google TV is any better with Mythtv-frontend or leanfront?

I don't have a fireTV 4k and have only played briefly with chromecast since loading the programs. I'll be looking at it this weekend and at least give you my opinion of both programs on my chromecast.

I have another request for those with a Chromecast with Google TV.

Does it have a a setting for "Framerate Matching"?

My FireTV 4K does have that feature and it allows smooth playing of Netflix and Prime Video content filmed in Europe. Shows like "The Crown" on Netflix is one that I can't watch on my Nvidia Shield TV because it doesn't change the framerate automatically.

Leanback in settings has "match original frame rate" and I have it checked. We don't watch Netflix so can't comment on that but can say that it works fine with both Amazon Prime and Disney+. Menus too problematic in mythfrontend so deleted it.

Any recent experience with this? I've been using mythfrontend on Nvidia Shield for a while now and although most things are fine there is a continuing problem with framerates and jerky movements - not just in myth but Netflix as well. I was wondering if this product would be any better? Not interested in the leanback option. I have loaded up quite a few apps on the Nvidia, including Kodi with a largeish database, so might the lesser memory and power of the Chromecast be an issue?

Or should I just get a Fire TV 4k Max instead?

Building on my own question ... looking into this, it would seem that both the Chromecast and Fire Max have 8GB of storage, a chunk of which is already used. I'm pretty sure that won't be enough - my Shield reports that I am using 6GB for apps and data - but I note that (apparently) both of these sticks will take expansion storage via a powered USB hub.

Advantage for the Amazon device - it seems to support the NowTV and All4 apps, which the Shield and Chromecast don't (I use a separate NowTV stick for these).
Disadvantage for the Amazon device - I really don't like the idea of having their content rammed down my throat all the time (I was given a free Amazon tablet and I find it really, really annoying!)

So I'm leaning towards the Chromecast but, as in my previous post, it would be great to hear from anyone with recent experience of using it with mythfrontend and also more generally.

ETA: More data: https://www.aftvnews.com/benchmark-scor ... -and-more/ suggests that the CPU performance of the two devices should be very similar unless you're gaming in which case the Amazon is better (though in this case the Nvidia is, unsurprisingly, even further ahead).

I use Nvidia Shield Tv for UK Freesat and occasionally Freeview. When the display framerate is set to 50Hz in (Shield Display settings) there is no judder whatsoever using the Frontend or Leanfront. Amazon Prime and Netflix programs will suffer from judder unless the display frame rate is adjusted to match the program.
I also have a Firestick 4 K & a ...Max. These are judder free but less tolerant to defects in the broadcast ie the front end hangs occasionally, Leanfront is more tolerant but it still happens.
The issue is worse for me on Channel 4 HD Freeview which I suspect can be highly compressed but this may be that I get a more consistent signal on Freesat.
If anybody has Google TV working for UK Freeview please post their evaluation.

I am a new Chromecast with Google TV user I am using the Mythtv Android Frontend and so far this is working well for me.
My aim is to remove the combined backend and Frontend that we have used for years into another part of the house where the noise from the computer will not be noticed.

I am using a USB-C hub with the Google TV that has a wired Ethernet adaptor built in, I have tried WiFi and this was also working OK but I did not do much testing.

The only question I have is, is it possible to increase the idle timeout value?

My Wife likes to leave the TV paused without saving a bookmark, when she comes back to the Google TV is in Ambient mode and she has to start the frontend again and then find the recording and skip forward.

If NOW TV release an app for the Google TV then that would make me very happy as we can then just use one device for everything, (maybe one day).
