I have tried a couple of remotes. If your TV has a CEC compliant remote, then just use that remote. I've done this and all that was required was to use Mythfrontend Setup -> Edit Keys to add any non working TV remote keys to be used in Mythfrontend.

I've also used remotes/keyboards like the "Air Mouse". It's a remote and mouse on one side and flip it over for a keyboard. Very useful for mythfrontend.

I've also tested a bluetooth mini keyboard like this one on Amazon iPazzPort Mini Bluetooth Keyboard.
