possible use of RPI4 as frontend

Post by jfabernathy »

For those who want to make your RPI4 usable as a frontend for your mythtv-backend I've found the best solution to date.

I just saw that LibreELEC.tv had a hotfix for the RPI4 https://libreelec.tv/2020/08/libreelec-leia-9-2-5/

When I installed it on my RPI4 and added the required "hdmi_enable_4kp60=1" to the /flash/config.txt, I saw the first frontend on a RPI4 that I can't find fault with for Mythtv ATSC OTA MPEG2 recordings.

I'm using the MythTV PVR Client from the LibreELEC repository. I've tested it with 4K60P settings and 1080P setting for Kodi and can't see a difference.

I spent some time this morning looking at the Thursday Night NFL football game and I can't see any flaws on the RPI4 with LibreELEC 9.2.5 Hotfix. In fact I watched a lot of the same high action on RPI4 and Shield TV mythfrontend and can't see any difference.

So if you stuck with RPI4's laying around you might try 9.2.5 if you can stand the Kodi interface.
