Atsc3 vs atsc 1
So my understanding from google is: 8VSB is a modulation scheme used in ATSC 1.0, while ATSC 3.0 uses OFDM. So is my 8vsb tuner card processing the atsc3 broadcasts. My understanding is all the tv stations in the Tampa area are Atsc3. Yet I am viewing their material on my atsc1 tuner. Do i have to have a OFDM atsc3 tuner?

This is not correct. There are about 5 "channels" (by this I mean ABC, CBS, etc, not channel as in channel 19) that are atsc3.0. I'm pretty sure 4 of them are DRM "protected". Everything you can get with 3.0 you can get with 1.0 (and will be for at least the next 4 years if the FCC policy holds). The only thing 3.0 brings to the table right now is if you have problems with multipath interference, or if your antenna doesn't do VHF, 3.0 may work better for you. But really, we've got it so sweet here in the Tampa area 3.0 is basically worthless. I've got a $30 antenna in my attic (with radiant barrier sheeting!) and I get everything rock solid, save a couple low power channels from St Pete that I could easily get if I moved the antenna outside (I'd rather keep it safe in the attic).mu34tant wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 10:33 amSo my understanding from google is: 8VSB is a modulation scheme used in ATSC 1.0, while ATSC 3.0 uses OFDM. 8VSB is a modulation method, and so is COFDM, and an ATSC 1 tuner card is only decoding 8VSB.
Final answer: NO. YOU DO NOT NEED A NEW CARD. It could help reception, if you have something that works with ATSC3, which depends on the software and hardware, but it isn't required.
EDIT: you are not picking up ATSC 3.0 with your ATSC 1 tuner
