mythfrontend becomes unresponsive while video paused

I little while back I upgraded mythtv from v29 (I think) to v32 (alone with an OS upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 22.04). Upgrade went well, but since then I noticed mythfrontend becoming unresponsive sometimes. It has only happened while a recording playback was paused. Using either remote or keyboard, I cannot get any response. I can login remotely and don't see any obvious issues. If I send mythfrontend.real a SIGTERM, nothing happens. But a second SIGTERM kills it and it is auto restarted and everything is fine. I estimate this has happend about 2-3 times a week. As a workaround, I bound to F1 "killall mythfrontend.real".

Is this a known issue or anyone have any suggestions?

Mythtv is a combo install on a ASRock Beebox S series. It is connected to an HDMI port on a TV. Tuner is a HD Homerun Prime.
Since upgrade, mythtv packages are from the PPA (deb https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/mythbuntu/32/ubuntu/ jammy main) and current version is 2:32.0+fixes.202301292148.749472ba33~ubuntu22.04.1. Xorg is being used. ir-keytable used for remote control. Also have wireless keyboard.

I didn't see anything obvious in the frontend logfile, but here it is anyway starting about 1 hour before the issue was noticed.

I have a quick update on this issue. Still happens after upgrade to v33.1. Not 100% certain, but it seems to only happen if the TV (HDMI) is turned off while playback is paused.

For the last 2-3 years here..
If the screen is put to sleep (by screen sleep settings) & Mythtv playback is paused then it locks up.
I believe it started around same time the screensaver code was rewritten to better integrate with later protocols.

And the screensaver only runs <10% of the time now or is triggered by some other external event.

I shall copy your F1 trick..
I have a terminal always open in desktop with: killall mythfrontend and sudoers/sudoers.d file modified to allow killall without password.

Mythfrontend has required (2) SIGTERMs to kill for as long as I can remember.

If F1 works, then ctrl-alt-F2 (or F3, etc) should as well, getting you to a tty.

Obviously that's not going to fix anything, but it's nice if you don't happen to have another PC handy for remote login.
