can't jump forward, jump back or bookmark location

Hi all,

i'm seeing a fair number of recordings that fail with these issues out any obvious reasons.
I tried a reboot with no change
when trying to skip the clock position shows 0:00 of 0:00

Running Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia with latest updates

I using a directv receiver connected to an h.264 encoder, Hdmi to IP, and a ota tuner.

any ideas what is causing this?
