[SOLVED] Remote Access to mysql mythtv user

Post by dooldeniya » Sun Sep 28, 2014 12:18 am

Hi, I am doing a fresh install in FreeBSD of mythTV and have run into an issue logging into mysql from anything other than local host.

1) below is the host and users from mysql user table
|localhost | mythtv
| 192.168.1.% | mythtv

I have no problem logging into mythtv from local host -- mysql -u mythtv -p -h localhost
However, when I try to login from another IP I get the following error -- mysql -u -p -h 192.168.1.62
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'mythtv'@'mythTV' (using password: YES)

I have configured the /etc/my.cnf as follows:
bind-address = 0.0.0.0

Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like it's doing reverse lookup on your system name, and then not matching any credentials against that name instead of the IP.

So would adding the below to the my.cnf resolve this issue?

skip-name-resolve

Edit --
I was able to resolve this by adding the above to the my.cnf and restarting mysql server. Thanks for you insight.
