How do I change recordings default extension back to .mpg

I understand that the default recording file extension was changed from .mpg to .ts back in version .28

However, now the recordings with a .ts extension cannot be read by my televisions over DLNA like they used to.

Is there any way to change the default recording extension back to .mpg in version 31 on ubuntu 18.04,
maybe with a variable in the config file?
