[Solved} Frontend cannot connect to database

Post by pinnerite » Sat Feb 29, 2020 6:44 pm

This is so embarrassing!

I had to reinstall a Mint 19.1 system whose data entry fields in every application, just scrolled the contents of previous entries endlessly. I was content to lose the previous recordings if only to restore the system and mythtv.
It did not go well with several errors reported when trying to update from the registries.

Most of those related to MySQL. After two days of wrestling with it, I appear to have got it do what wanted.
Mythtv-setup appeared to go well and the backup comes up and seems OK

But the frontend still does not connect. These are the contents of mysql.user.

mysql> select host, user, authentication_string from mysql.user;
+----------------+----------------------+--------------------------------------------------------------+
| host | user | authentication_string |
+----------------+----------------------+--------------------------------------------------------------+
| localhost | root | |
| localhost | mysql.session | *THISISNOTAVALIDPASSWORDTHATCANBEUSEDHERE |
| localhost | mysql.sys | *THISISNOTAVALIDPASSWORDTHATCANBEUSEDHERE |
| localhost | debian-sys-maint | *A56B269F6EB1E66C23777564A6A0229B1DF568C5 |
| 192.168.1.% | mythtv | *CC8F35F587CA5A556B4132C2407E556D92172FFC |
| % | alan | |
+-------------+------------------+---------------------------------------------------------------------+

The settings of following items in the backend setup:

Listen on all IP addresses - set on
Primary IP Address }
Master Backend Name } 192.168.1.5
thank you in advance.

[SOLVED]: Frontend cannot connect to database

Post by pinnerite » Sun Mar 01, 2020 1:28 pm

While checking the Official website, I examined the example config.xml.

One of my two copies of config.xml, one in ~/.mythtv and the other in /etc/mythtv did not match.
A careful edit and restart of the backend, followed by the remote front end and I had a live TV picture.
