long pause before recording plays

This is only a problem with recordings from the tuner (ATSC). There is a long pause about 15 seconds before a recording starts. If the recording is stopped but then started again, there is no pause. Here are the log entries from mythfrontend.log, I don't know if there is anything relevant there or not. I can post other logs if they will help.
This is on Mythtv 0.27.3-153 and Mythbuntu 14.04.1 (but it was happening with Mythbuntu 12.04.1 as well)

Just some more information about the issue, CPU is below 30%, memory is not maxed out, there is no swap use. Does anyone know which log I should be looking at about a long pause before live recording plays?

I have seen this behaviour on my MythTV when I had a failing memory module, look for messages like this in DMESG:

Also, the hard drive being close to full can cause this, which filesystem are you using? (i.e. EXT4, BTRFS, etc)

Could it be your drive with the recordings on is going to sleep and the delay you're seeing is the time the drive is taking to wakeup? The green drives have been known to cause problems before because they are very aggressive at going to sleep.

Ok I replaced the RAM and now the pause is less noticeable but it still takes about 10 seconds to open up a live tv recording. We didn't notice the delay at all before the problem started.. Hopefully someone can spot something in the dmesg posted above. I really appreciate any direction at all!

The 10 sec delay rings like threadfilereader timeout.

Do you have "Start on SEQ" selected/ticked in mythtv-setup tuner config (2nd screen?) ?

Test your recordings with ffprobe or mythffmpeg.

Thanks for the reply. I have 2 Hauppauge 1250 tuners used for ATSC. "Wait for SEQ start header" is checked in both of them. It would make sense it is something to do with the tuner recordings. Any downloaded recordings play fine. This wasn't an issue until an upgrade a few months back, before upgrading to 14.04 LTS.

Collect some logs from frontend & backend when attempting to start playback.

You can change the log verbose settings of the backend while it is running, as a guess this:-
[code]mythbackend --setloglevel warning --setverbose playback

Restart frontend end with:
[code]mythfrontend -v playback --log-level=debug > fe-log.txt
[/code]
Then post the fe log.
