Videos not grabbing cover art

Mythtv v30.0

Greetings,
I have mythtv 30 installed - I decide to do a fresh install, not an upgrade. I am running a backend machine, and some front ends for I have my old movies in the 'mythtv/videos' folder, and when I go to browse the videos in the Mythtv Front end, they are there, and some of them have cover art. I didn't copy the coverart over - so must have been downloaded at some point.

When I launch Mythfrontend.real from the command line, and go to Video Options -> Change Video Details -> Retrieve Details, I get the following output on the terminal:

Code: Select all

2019-11-13 19:57:39.705869 E XMLParseBase: Parent is NULL
2019-11-13 19:57:45.090419 I Running Grabber: /usr/share/mythtv/metadata/Movie/tmdb3.py -l en -a US -M Chinatown
2019-11-13 19:58:15.558896 I Running Grabber: /usr/share/mythtv/metadata/Television/ttvdb.py -l en -a US -M Chinatown

2019-11-13 19:58:17.221434 I Running Grabber: /usr/share/mythtv/metadata/Television/ttvdb.py -l en -a US -C 370540
2019-11-13 19:58:19.267671 I Result Found, Season 0 Episode 0
2019-11-13 19:58:19.276283 I Running Grabber: /usr/share/mythtv/metadata/Television/ttvdb.py -l en -a US -D 370540
2019-11-13 19:58:26.082576 I Returning Metadata Results: Shadow of Chinatown 0 0
The movie file in this case is 'Chinatown.mkv'. The movie it finds is Shadow of Chinatown from 1936 that stars Bela Lugosi. It is a film and a 'film serial' and is in both https://www.themoviedb.org and https://www.thetvdb.com. Maybe not the best example. I do not get asked if that is the title I want.

If I reset the details and then retrieve details again, I get the movie Chinatown, with Jack Nicholson etc, as the first choice on a list. I select it, and all the meta data gets added to the movie, but the cover art is not downloaded.

SImilarly, for the movie Bolt, file name Bolt (2008).mkv. Terminal output:

2019-11-13 20:14:24.236395 I Running Grabber: /usr/share/mythtv/metadata/Movie/tmdb3.py -l en -a US -M Bolt
2019-11-13 20:14:54.606680 I Running Grabber: /usr/share/mythtv/metadata/Television/ttvdb.py -l en -a US -M Bolt
2019-11-13 20:14:54.857279 I Result Found, Season 0 Episode 0
2019-11-13 20:14:55.367586 I Running Grabber: /usr/share/mythtv/metadata/Television/ttvdb.py -l en -a US -C 249797
2019-11-13 20:14:58.465622 I Result Found, Season 0 Episode 0
2019-11-13 20:14:58.465743 I Returning Metadata Results: The Bolt Report 0 0

The Bolt Report is a Australian series that seems to be a spin off of Ken Brokmans Eye on Springfield.

If I reset the details and again run the Retrieve Details again, I get the Movie Bolt as the first entry on a list of movies - including Usain Bolt etc. If I select Bolt, the meta data gets entered but the cover data does not get downloaded.

The permissions on the mythtv/coverart directory allow the mythtv user to write to the directory.

The Setup -> Artwork and Metadata Sources are set to:
Movie Metadata Source: TheMovieDB.org V3
Television Metadata Source: TheTVDB.com

On the front end, the Video settings -> General settings -> Directories that hold ... are all empty.

If I go ssh into the back end and delete a file from the coverart directory, the file cannot be found by the front end.

So ... real problem is not being able to get the cover art to download - not finding things in the movie db is annoying, but ...

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong would be welcome. It has been bugging me for a few weeks now.

Cheers
DOn

I've just noticed metadata for my Videos does not work any more.

Try running the command directly from terminal in frontend user login.
/usr/share/mythtv/metadata/Television/ttvdb.py -l en -a US -C 370540

then try as typical backend user
sudo su -l mythtv
Maybe there'll be some clue in stdout.
I would assume mythmetadata processes run as backend user but the various folders for Videos & artwork could be a mixed bag.

That command is showing that MythTV is defaulting to the television DB query instead of tmdb3.py .. that also does not help for movies.
Recordings metadata queries determine the correct script from the series & episode info (which is absolutely terrible here) & recordings metadata UI displays the chosen query by using prefixes (e.g. tmdb3.py_) & UI has options of changing this.
This was implemented some years back in master.
Maybe the Videos UI was forgotten & that is why it works so badly.

I've noticed that sometimes the metadata is downloaded and the artwork is "missing", but then if I do something else (ie browse other folders, etc) and come back, then the artwork is now there.

But not always.

Other times, a second attempt to download the metadata brings the art in. I don't recall if the default keybinding is setup, or whether I have customised it, but if I press "W", it downloads the data - so I just press it again :)

Interesting to read @blm-ubunet's comment:
That command is showing that MythTV is defaulting to the television DB query
because I'm currently looking at how to get the metadata for a TV Series box set of DVDs to download... if I put the series in the "Movies" folder, it's trying to find the results of Film titles and doesn't appear to know the difference...

That fix seems to be related to the TVDB, not the movie db. Would have thought the fix would have filtered through to the released version by now but apparently not.

Movie metadata still not working.
