End of my tether!

Post by lurch »

Hi All,

Ok, i'm having some trouble setting up my HTPC the details of it:

Intel® NUC Kit DN2820FYKH
Running Ubuntu 18.04.01 "Bionic Beaver"
4GB RAM
500GB HDD
My Tuner is: Geniatech MyGica® DVB-T2/T USB Full HD TV Stick Tuner T230 USB2.0
MythTV 29.0
Kodi 17.6 Isengrad.
Indoor aerial : One4All Powered which promises to always give the right signal level (Surge protection?)

After trying to get TVHEADEND and VDR, i managed to get somewhere with MythTV. I've configured the backend, which detects the Silicon chip inside correctly.

I've added a video source which the network id is -1.

When i scan for channels i get over 100 channels, however when i load the front end and hit watch tv, It flashes please wait then goes back to the first page of the front end?

I've scanned in kaffiene and again plenty of channels but when i click on one i get a brief flash of the channel then it goes off. I click on another channel and i get nothing, although i still get the EPG information.

When i scanned for the channel, the page said Lock : No Lock.

Signal Noise bar was blank
The signal was at 0%

It still found over 100 channels.

In Kodi, the mythtv client works fine but when i click on a channel it says channel unavailable and the epg guide is blank?

I've ran w_scan which found over 100 channels.Which says signal "ok".

So what do i do from here as i'm out of tinkering ideas. I've read so many forums but all of the solved! ones dont seem to solve my issue. Can you please help?

Is it my signal, how would i know without buying more kit?

How do i get these channels to work???

Please help, i'm new to linux, kodi and myth!

WAG since I don't know squat about your tuner or dvb-T(2), or whatever you use over there. Sounds like firmware for the tuner is not getting loaded at boot. Are you sure your tuner is a compatible model. What's your output of this
wes@mythfe0:~$ ls /dev/dvb/*
/dev/dvb/adapter0:
demux0 dvr0 frontend0 net0
and this
wes@mythfe0:~$ dmesg|grep dvb
[ 20.181495] cx23885: cx23885_dvb_register() allocating 1 frontend(s)
[ 20.181559] cx23885: cx23885[0]: cx23885 based dvb card

A few suggestions.

If not already done, for the firmware see https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/ ... 0#Firmware
Note after installing the firmware a reboot is probably needed, most drivers only check for firmware at boot time.

In mythtv setup "Capture cards" try increasing timeouts for Signal and Tuning (they can sometimes be too low), default is 1000 and 3000 to 7000 and 10000 respectively. Note Channel scanning in mythtv-setup will be slower, but normal operation in mythtv frontend or Kodi is not affected as the timeout is canceled as soon as tuning is ok.

In mythtv frontend sometimes the start channel gets out of step and can cause immediate return to main menu after entering LiveTV. Try going into Programme Guide, move to a channel, then press "m" key this brings up a menu, the first of which should be "Watch This Channel" press select key.

Not a clue what this means but i downloaded the drivers, tried to move them over in the gui and i got a message saying permission denied, it then said did i want to replace or merge the files so i assumed the drivers were already in there.

Any ideas?

Tried the time out settings in the backend & my device according to linuxtv wiki is supported.

HELP?

You have to be root to write to lib/firmware dir. If you want to use a filemanger like thunar or mc to copy the file there you need to su to root or use sudo. To find out if your driver is already there, simply open the lib/firmware dir and look and see if the file is there. If not, you need to put it there and reboot.
I find mc invaluable.
sudo apt install mc

Ok so I installed mc and copied the files over., still no change.

I've also tested my aerial and usb on my windows surface, worked no issue.

I've created a libreelec usb stick but when I try to boot to it my pc just boots straight past it???? Checked the architecture no luck.

Any other options?

If you want to boot from usb you have to either configure that in the bios or possibly use the bios boot manager if your bios has one.

Done that, it just skipped over it. I've booted into ubuntu and lubuntu plenty. For some reason that just skips on libreelec

Then maybe it's not a bootable usb drive. I assume you know you have to install some sort bootable OS on it. About all I use them for is for bootable CD/DVD images. I create mine like this;
dd if=xubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdh. to create a bootable installation flash drive.
