No Video on Old Recordings After Upgrade to .28 [Solved]

In a fresh install of ubuntu 16.04 and mythtv .28, the frontend works well with new recordings, BUT after migrating database with old recording data from mythtv .27's schema, the old recordings (.mpg) only play audio and cause the frontend window to disappear. I got the same result doing an upgrade from 14.04.

I understand that .28 uses a different video file format (.ts) than .27 (.mpg). Is this related to my problem?

Are you using any of the OpenGL playback profiles? If so make sure the theme painter is also set to OpenGL.

You seem to have put your finger on my problem. When I restored the old database, the playback profile went to Qt with an OpenGL paint engine. I matched them up and now all seems well. Thanks a TON!
