I was looking at the disk space usage on my main MythTV frontend machine and noticed that [user]/.MythTV was taking up a large amount of space. It appears that I have over 10GB space used in /home/[user]/.mythtv/themecache/Terra.1920.1080/ and /home/[user]/.mythtv/cache/themecache/Terra.1920.1080/ with thousands of .png files in each of these folders.
Is my assumption that it it would be safe to delete these files correct?
Is there any way of preventing the build-up of files in these directories?

You can safely delete the cache files. It may make loading some screens in the FE a little slow the first time you access them since the cached images will have to be recreated.
There is some new stuff to prune the caches but not sure what version that made it into. It may be 30.0 only.
In the grand scheme of things 10GB is pretty small when HD recording could be 5GB per hour

Thanks paulh.
I am using a low capacity SSD for root and home and most of my recordings go to another backend raid array, so the space on the SSD is a concern. I will think about moving home to a larger capacity drive in future if the cache files build up quickly.
