Frontend hang when exiting video playback - Failed to idle DMA.

Post by jgmtfia » Tue Jan 30, 2018 7:43 am

New installation (mint 18.3 w/ compiz), latest 29/fixes.

When playing back a video, pressing escape to exit playback causes the picture and entire X desktop to hang for minutes at a time. This problem has been following me around from different mint, kernel and Nvidia driver updates, so it's time to ask for help.

dmesg says:

The one hint I have is that this version of frontend does not appear to have the issue. (Buy my sample size is currently small)

New google results suggest this may be an issue with the Nvidia driver.

https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topi ... e-gtx-960/

I didn't find the "Failed to idle DMA" text in the myth sources.
