Using DVI2HD converter from StarTech - no audio

I am running the latest version of Xubuntu on a box with a DVI connecter.
I am trying to connect to a TV with HDMI input.
I was unable to get the audio added to the DVI signal, so I bought a converter that is supposed to take audio from USB + video from DVI and combine them into an HDMI signal.
The video works fine, but I cannot get the audio added to the mix,
Any help or comments getting this issue fixed would be appreciated.

Is the usb being detected as an audio device? If so you may need to change the audio device in frontend setup.

Is this on a Raspberry Pi? If so you sometimes have to force the audio to use the hdmi output.
