Terminate long-paused clients?

Post by waltonbruce01 »

I've been looking for a solution to the following:

We have Kodi on a raspberry pi running latest mythtv PVR client.
The backend is mythtv 31 from the mythbuntu PPA.

Everything works great, until the human element is introduced.

My wife turns off the TV while watching a live channel using the TV remote power button, as folks do.
This causes the PI to go into pause mode, with mythtv backend continuing to record the live tv.

This condition persists until I come along to kill the session manually after many many hours of useless live TV get recorded.

No amount of pleading or training seems to change the human behavior, actually would like to solve it otherwise.

Does anyone know if I can time out these paused sessions on the backend? A limit parameter of some kind?
I've been looking but haven't seen a good way to do this.

thanks for any pointers -bruce.

I tested this (exactly once) with a paused frontend LiveTV program. Not
Kodi and it works:

frontend->Setup->Video->Playback->General->LiveTV Idle Timeout (mins)

Hi, thanks for replying.

Yes, good point that the client should handle this, but in the Kodi case apparently not.

Not a huge deal, I can kill these sessions remotely.

Just to loop back in case anyone else has this issue here.

The proper approach is to use HDMI/CEC functionality.

For Kodi, it's under settings->input->peripherals->hdmi-cec

One of the settings is to invoke "stop play" when the TV is powered off. Bam, fixed :)
