Hauppauge Model 01595 USB Tuner
I'm looking to replace or augment my Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2255 with their WinTV-dualHD (Model 01595) USB stick tuner. According to Hauppauge's wiki, "This version of the board is like a USB version of the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2255 PCIe card." I'm currently running the 4.15.0-24 kernel in Ubuntu 16.04. I've heard about some problems getting both tuners to work in Linux. Would I be advised to put down $70 or so for this tuner?
Re: Hauppauge Model 01595 USB Tuner
Only one tuner is supported on 4.15 kernels from Ubuntu, see Drivers section at https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/ ... nTV-dualHD
However, Hauppauge (Brad Love) has had the required changes upstreamed to latest V4L, so you can update the V4L subsystem on Ubuntu kernels by following Basic approach instructions at https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/ ... ce_Drivers
This has to be done every time the kernel is updated.
There is also a Hauppauge PPA for this, which currently, for Ubuntu 16.04 installs an updated 4.4 LTS series kernel see https://github.com/b-rad-NDi/Ubuntu-med ... el-builder
The Hauppauge PPA installs updated 4.15 kernel for 18.04 (Bionic)
Alternatively you could try (caveat - may have issues with graphics drivers) latest Ubuntu 4.17 kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
