Recommended OTA tuners?

Post by jimls »

I have two HVR-1600 tuners that work ok but occasionally lock up and I would like to upgrade. Think this is a known issue but not sure if it has been resolved in later versions. I am running Ubuntu 14.04 and MythTV 0.027. They also run fairly hot. I only use OTA at least for now.

SiliconDust HDHomeRun CONNECT DUO looks like a reasonable choice although I am not sure about how to set up channel changing, etc. I need to upgrade my version and will be doing that anyway. I have a MCE USB IR receiver for LIRC now.

What other tuners should I consider?

I've been running HDHomerun boxes for about 10 years and I'm very happy. The Silicondust people wrote the MythTV interface software--channel changing included. I have mine together with my networking gear as the cableco and OTA line are both in the same spot. I have all this stuff on a small UPS so that small blinks in the power don't interrupt recordings.
