Intel VAAPI De-interlacing

Post by alien878 » Mon Jan 15, 2018 2:36 pm

What is the current status of VAAPI de-interlacing in Mythtv? The best I have been able to determine is that VAAPI works, but not for HW deinterlacing (even though Kodi does support it). However, the threads are quite old. Ex: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=626
Has VAAPI HW deinterlacing been implemented in mythtv yet? Does it work as well as with VDPAU?

In particular, I'm considering something with an Intel Apollo Lake processor (ex. ASRock J3455-ITX) to replace my aging Atom 330.

Thanks,

Allen

We have never implemented de-interlacing via VAAPI. Would welcome any patches for this.

I just took a peak at this....

It seems mythtv uses a version of ffmpeg synced 2016. Ffmpeg has since added support for VAAPI deinterlacing:

https://github.com/FFmpeg/FFmpeg/commit ... ce_vaapi.c
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Hardware/VAAPI

If I understand correctly, once mythtv syncs to a version of ffmpeg with VAAPI deinterlacing support, this should be relatively easy to add?

Any idea when the next ffmpeg sync is planned to be done? I might be able to help (although I'm in a bit of a chicken and the egg position as I still have nvida graphics).

Cheers,

Allen
