The new CuBox release, CuBox-i - see http://cubox-i.com/ has now arrived.
I have installed a Ubuntu image and would like to add Mythtv, but imagine that will mean compiling from source.
Does anyone have any tips / howtos / gotchas to share?

While one of the devs has a CuBox development board to play with, MythTV does not currently support any hardware accelerated decoding interface offered on any ARM system. You can compile and install MythTV on it, but you will not actually be able to play recordings.

That is rather disappointing ... being much more well-endowed than simple plug computers such as sheeva et all. Perhaps, but still only about as powerful as a mid-range P3 per-core, and many tasks, such as MPEG2 decoding, are not multi-threaded. It will handle standard definition in software, and I expect you could get video rendering through OpenGL ES, but anything HD is likely out of the question without hardware acceleration.scharnke wrote:rwagner wrote:being much more well-endowed than simple plug computers such as sheeva et all.

To get GPU acceleration, you'll have much better results with something like OpenElec running XBMC and using the MythTV PVR plugin (libcmyth). Have a look at http://snapshots.openelec.tv/ where they have a Cubox-i test build. I run similar for the Raspberry PI and it works pretty good connecting to MythTV 0.27. I have a Cubox i2 on order and I'm looking forward to getting it next month since the specs are much better than the PI (2 1ghz cores).
