Geniatech A684 ATSC 3.0 Receiver with Quad Tuner

Post by BigEd »

 Instead of the HDHomeRun ATSC 3 tuner, I'm thinking of going a different route, threading uncharted waters with this Geniatech A684 USB tuner with four ATSC 3 tuners. Their website and product documentation claims that this tuner is compatible with Windows, Andriod, Linux and Mac which is good if true.

You can find some of their ATSC 1 and DVB USB tuners on Amazon and other online outlets under the "MyGica" brand.

I see some users posts here about using their tuners. Will anybody care to comment about the quality, stability and strength of the Geniatech/MyGica USB tuners they have and use?

:!: Please note, I'm thinking about it, I haven't done it yet as some ATSC 3 channels have been encrypted with DRM. I'm waiting to see how it all plays out. Also, Ffmpeg is still working out the AC-4 audio issue with ATSC 3 before MythTV can support it. Until then, only a few, a handful, probably 2 or 3 DVRs I know of that have workarounds for this new AC-4 audio issue.

I have a MyGIca T230 that works very well for DVB-T2 and DVB-C. With the command lsusb it is listed as

Code: Select all

ID 0572:c688 Conexant Systems (Rockwell), Inc. Geniatech T230 DVB-T2 TV Stick
I do not know how far the Linux support for A684 device will go. It could just be that it supports in Linux everything except ATSC 3.0. But I love to be surprised... If there is Linux open source software that does support ATSC3.0 on this device then I expect that it can be made to work in MythTV as well. But, as mentioned, without the AC4 audio for the time being.

Thank you kmdewaal. The driver for your tuner is included in the linux kernel since 3.19. I'm hoping the driver for the A684 tuner is included in the mainline kernel as well since Geniatech claims support on Linux. I searched the documentation for the product and didn't see any mention of compiling source code for the driver.

I contacted their customer service to find out how to order one so I can test and get more details about the tuner. They asked me which Company I work for. I think they are expecting corporate bulk purchases.
