IR Blaster recommendations

Post by dixonstalbert » Fri May 01, 2020 5:38 pm

Hello:
Can someone recommend a working IR blaster hardware and software instructions for Ubuntu 18.04/20.04 ?
Thanks

I have been using mythtv for about 5 years.

I am in western Canada and receive tv signal via an arris DCX-3200-m cable box, which I capture with hauppuage HD-PVR 1212.

For the last 2 years I have used firewire port to change channels using 6200ch script from mythtv wiki. The problem is Shaw Cable keeps downloading software to their boxes, which breaks 6200ch script, which breaks my channel change script which stops mythtv from recording scheduled program.

I want to go back to using an IR blaster to change channels, but since LIRC version 0.92, my HD-PVR blaster no longer works.

The mythtv wiki on IR BLaster is old and full of dead links.

Is there a cablecard in that DCX-3200-m? There is in Shaw's dcx3400 box. If so, maybe consider a cablecard tuner instead of the HD-PVR 1212.

dixonstalbert, is this the page you are referring to? https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Using_an_IR ... hTV#HOWTOs

If so I've corrected and removed some of the incorrect/dead links.

Thanks Steve!

Of the remaining links:
Command IR mini > sold out
IR Blaster.info > software links broken
USB Infrared Toy > sold out
Iguana works and IR Trans links still in stock but the cost is $100-$225 CDN when my old blaster consisted of $3 IR diode!
