Best option to connect to Sat Set top box

Post by rlongfield » Mon Nov 13, 2017 8:13 pm

Hello,

I currently have a very stable Myth setup that I've been using for a few years now with a Pinnacle PCI (800i I believe) to record TV off my OTA antenna.

I just updgraded to .28 and I would like to add our Satelitte sub to the mix (in hopes of ditching our rental PVR)

We have Shaw and I own the Motarola Hddsr 600 receiver.

What is my best option to connect Myth with this receiver for the usual, watching Live TV, Recording, and of course being able to change the channel?

Thanks

One option is the setup I developed a few years ago, using an IPTV encoder. It works well for me. Your mileage may vary...

That is a very thorough entry, certainly something for me to consider.
I assume that you use a blaster with Lirc and a channel change script?

My stb happens to allow network based control. but an LIRC device would work as well for changing channels

Please note that you probably won't be able to find an IPTV encoder that does anything better than 2-channel audio. I just did another round of scouring the interwebs last week, and still couldn't find anything. I'd be glad to be proven wrong, though!

That's OK, 2 channel is fine for TV
Difficult to find prices on these things
Guess I should start with getting Lirc running, configured and changing challes for me
