mythTV on esxi - infinitv pcie

Post by gecko »

Hi all,

I’ve been using mythTV for years on Linux using a standalone setup and Ceton’s infinitv pci cards. I’m now trying to simplify by virtualizing the entire setup and I’m running into an issue. Before I go too far down the rabbit hole I’d like to know if anyone else has done this successfully.

Setup:

Supermicro board, Xeon Processor, esxi 6.5, ubuntu 14 or 16 mythtv 26, infinitv pci 4 and 6

Problem:

The board and processor support vt-d and the ceton cards have been passed thru to the ubuntu vm, infinitv drivers compile and an interface is created but the infinitv card does not get an ip address as usual (ctn0 = 192.168.200.2) as such it can’t be reached by mythtv or configured. Setting static IPs doesn’t help, and I know the hardware is working, reseting the network on the cards or changing pci slots does not work.

Next things I’ll try are, passing thru a physical NIC and a graphics card to the VM in case there is a weird interaction between the network interfaces and it doesn’t play well with virtual nics.

Any other ideas?
