[Solved] MythBuntu 16.04.4 Frontend audio issues

Post by wesattexas »

I "decided" to rebuild my fully functioning 16.04 Mythbuntu Box due to a
too small /boot partition. /boot was always 100% full and I could never
- just - do an upgrade or add software. I finally screwed-up and deleted
the wrong /boot file in one of my cleanups.

So I downloaded the Feb 28 2018 version of 16.04.4 64 and Installed fresh.
My major issue is with a sound problem, but only inside Myth TV Frontend.
No Problem with other programs like Fire Fox or VLC:
This message appears each time I play a recorded program or with livetv.

Disabling Audio Audio Player AOOSS:
Error opening audio Device(): eno:
No such file or directory(2).

Since 16.04.4 was brand new, I went back to the version I knew had
worked a year or so ago. Downloaded the current 16.04 ISO and I have the
exact same sound problems ??.
Myth Records TV shows as advertised and the *.ts files have audio.

I have an old ASUS M3A76-CM mother board. The Audio device is SBx00
Azalia (Intel HDA), Device vendor:Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]

I'm afraid I don't know ALSA from PULSE or how to troubleshoot any audio.
And I'm under the impression that Audio is done completely different on the
Myth box.

Can anyone help? Wes

I get this on an ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 motherboard with built-in Video (from HDMI port), it is due to Audio settings needing to be changed from the default in mythfrontend.

A few things to try/check, I am assuming mythtv version 29 and HDMI output from the PC, but I don't know which theme you are using.

1. Check Paint Engine (Setup>Appearance>Theme/Screen Settings) is set to Auto.

2. Run the Setup Wizard, in Audio Configuration, try Test Speakers against different Audio Devices, on my motherboard ALSA:dmix:CARD=HDMI,DEV=3 works. When Test Speakers gives you sound, click on Next to and setup the desired Video Playback Profile, run both Test Standard Definition and Test High Definition, when you happy with playback click on Finish.

Thanks much ! Changing the output device from ALSA:default seemed to work. I first tried ALSA:pulse.
That gave me no error message but still no audio.
I choose ALSA:dmix:CARD=SB,DEV=0
MYTHbuntu 16.04.4 is still only on MYTH 28, so no HighDef . Upgrade to MYTH 29 is early on my list of things to do.
Again, thanks.
