[Solved] Old pci tuner card and a new mythtv setup

Post by poe503 » Fri Feb 02, 2018 6:53 pm

I decided to install new software on my old (8-10 year old) Mythtv DVR computer which has two pci-e Hauppauge 1250 tuner cards and one pci Avermedia a180 tuner card.

I used a new hard drive and installed the 64 bit version. The backend initially recognized the cards and the set up went well until the channel scan where no signal was found on any of the cards. Subsequently the backend refused to recognize any of the cards. It got sluggish and useless.

I decided to remove the Avermedia card and everything went smoothly with a new 64 bit installation. The pci-e cards worked fine.

I decided to set up a 32 bit Mythtv installation on an old drive and see if that would work with the old pci card since pci is 32bit. The backend did set up correctly. It didn't have the hiccups that the 64 bit installation had been having however no signal was found on the pci card. The pci-e cards work just fine.

I installed the latest v4l drivers but no change.

Just to check, I plugged in my old Myth installation and the Avermedia card was working just fine.

Any ideas?

wag, no firmware drivers on the new install, or not loaded at boot time. I ran into this once trying to use an old gen 1 pci atsc card.

Yes, that was it. When I saw the firmware file, it jogged my memory. I had to manually install that file a decade ago. Some things never change, I guess. Thanks for the benefit of your expertise.
