Just done an install of mythtv (client/server) using ppa:mythbuntu/30 on a clean install of Lubuntu 16.04.3 and it installs mariadb rather than mysql.
Does anyone know if this change of database is intentional ?
I also noted that the usual option of setting database root password is not presented during the install.
I don't have a preference either way for mysql or mariadb, but ppa:mythbuntu/0.29 installs mysql. Upgrading via mythbuntu ppa 30 keeps mysql.

It's intentional on the part of Ubuntu. Fedora also did the same thing.
