I haven't used mythTV yet, but wondered if my old HP laptop would be able to use to record and playback HD OTA TV shows on our 1 TV set. I don't need it to do anything more than record and playback TV shows. I'll post the specs for my laptop below. If it would be okay to use this laptop for mythTV, then what would you recommend, hardware wise, to do this? Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, I will give it a try. It was probably a stupid question... I won't know until I actually give it a go.

My guess would be that the laptop is more than powerful enough. I have read a few reports that Ironlake has general problems on linux playing full HD for some people, but works fine for others, with some people suggesting the BIOS video settings are often too low. I don't have that laptop so can't advise further.
I don't know if your OTA is HD or not so it might not affect you.
On mythfrontend there should be settings under setup/video where you can choose video acceleration.
In my experience, the thing that can make mythtv slow is a slow hard drive due to the use of the database, or having lots of channels and lots of generic recording rules such as "record Bond on any channel at any time".
