Driver for Hauppauge TV-quadHD?

Post by mwebby »

I have been struggling to get a mythtv install working with a Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD card. In theory the card is supported (https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/ ... VB-T/T2/C)), with dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw firmware and Linux kernel 4.8. I have tried this combination (on ubuntu 16.04 with mythtv 0.28) with no luck. Also tried an install of ubuntu 16.10 (kernel 4.8), also with dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw, with same result. I have also tried build and install of the V4L-DVB drivers https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/ ... ce_Drivers (on the 16.10 build) also without success.

Basically I can get mythtv to recognise tune DVB-T/DVB-T2 channels and using kodi with mythtv plugin as frontend retrieve the EPG info for a number of channels, but attempting to play the content gets 'channel unavailable'. I seem to be having similar issues as described here: https://lists.gt.net/mythtv/users/604061#604061. It's not obvious that the discussion on that thread resulted in a successful outcome though. If I understand things correctly the driver may not be working due to a hardware change on the Hauppauge card.

Does anyone know of any other combination of ubuntu version/linux kernel/firmware patch that might result in a working system for this card?

The build details are:
MB: Gigabyte H170N-WIFI
CPU: Intel Core i5
OS: ubuntu 16.10 64bit/linux kernel 4.8.8-040808-generic
MythTV: 0.28
kodi: 16.1
TV tuner card: Hauppauge TV-quadHD PCIe DVB-T/T2/C

I have attached snippets of kern.log and output from lspci. Similarly to the mailing list mentioned above the lspci output should show:
Multimedia video controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23887/8 PCIe Broadcast Audio and Video Decoder with 3D Comb (rev 04)
but instead shows:
Multimedia video controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23885 PCI Video and Audio Decoder (rev 03)

Also in kern.log, there is:
cx23885[1]: warning: unknown hauppauge model #166201

Any help appreciated.

Regards
Mark
