cannot access database following upgrade

Post by pinnerite »

I omitted to formally backup the mysql database before upgrading the distro on my computer.
The config files in .mythtv are intact as are all the recordings that are on a separate partition.

Is it recoverable?

What do I tell my wife?

Hi,

Look in the backend log files. Perhaps /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log (yours
may be in a different place.) You'll need to describe the failure (or paste/attach
the logs) in order for folks to offer more help. But, just a guess, the mysql password
for mythtv has been changed. Also, mention your distribution.

I apologise for not expressing myself well.

I have completely wiped the partition holding /var/lib/mysql.
All the logs were wiped when the partition was reformatted.

I can recreate the mysql structure but is there a script or commands that would enable me to repopulate the mysql tables from the directory/files holding the recordings, even if I have to manually enter the titles later?

Or should I forget all the recordings previously made and start again (with more care)?

TIA

There's no such script/process, however, you can move the recordings
to the video directory and watch them there. If the recordings are dear
to you, you'd probably want to rename them from (for example)
1021_20160316012900.mpg to Show\ X.mpg etc. The metadata is lost.

I presume that that means just using a player such as vlc but not mythtv?

I meant moving the files to the Storage Directory in your
Video Storage Group. Then rather than using Watch
Recordings, use Watch Videos.
