Mythbackend won't start

Post by bsaustin98 »

The backend won't start. I've been through the database setup with a fine tooth comb.

Looking at the log files it looks like it can't find the machine it's installed on, Media-Macbook.local. I'm hoping someone on here can help point me towards resolution. Log file attached.

Just a guess, but have you been thru myth setup and configured your ip address correctly? The machine it's running on really should have a fixed ip.

I have assigned a fixed ip to the machine. I ran myth-setup and assigned the machine name in the settings.

What are the contents of '/opt/dvr/var/mythtvuser/.mythtv/config.xml'?

The file doesn't exist. Did I miss a step somewhere?

Thanks!

Your log says it is using that directory for configuration:
2015-10-03 14:23:25.819024 N [1144/2579] thread_unknown mythdirs.cpp:68 (InitializeMythDirs) - Using configuration directory = /opt/dvr/var/mythtvuser/.mythtv
What are the contents of the directory?

The mythtvuser directory is empty. There is no .mythtv directory.

Ok. After educating myself on hidden folders and how to find them in Terminal I've located the file. I've attached a screenshot of the config.xml file.

I tried to alter it but it gave me an access denied message trying to save it. I'm continuing to research how to get around this (I'm obviously new to working outside the Mac OS GUI) but thought I would update the thread.

Am I on the right track? Thanks!

Your config.xml looks fine to me.

Let's back up a bit.

0) I presume you installed with the all-in-one installer from:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/macpor ... rce=navbar

1) Did you try to install any other way, beforehand?

2) Did you follow ALL to configuration and setup steps from:

https://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MacPorts

(This should include setting up your tuners, guide data sources, defining recording directories, etc.)

3) When mythbackend failed to start (above), where you using the Myth_Stop_Start helper (/Applications/MacPorts/MythTV/)?

4) Try again?

0) I did use the all in one installer.

1) I did try the manual route before I found the MacPorts way. I couldn't get My SQL installed and running correctly. I found instructions for removing MySQL and then tried the MacPorts install after I found it.

2) I did go through all the installation instructions. Myth_setup found my tuners and gave me no problem with the setup.

3) I was using the Myth_Stop_Start helper.

4) I have gone back through the instructions multiple times but can't find a anything I've missed.

Thanks for the help!

If you have a my.cnf file at '/private/etc/' please delete it or rename? Such a config file would be overriding the one we want (at '/opt/dvr/etc/mariadb/'.)

Does Console ('/Applications/Utilities/') have any messages related to myth, mysql or maria? Make sure you are viewing All Messages and use the Search filter to show messages containing any one of those strings.

If you don't see anything useful in the above steps, please attach your mythtv-setup log.

NO my.cnf in /private/etc.

I see this in the setup log

Using configuration directory = /Users/barryaustin/.mythtv

There is a directory there with a config.xml file in it. Should I delete that directory or is there a pointer to it somewhere that needs to be changed?

Thanks,

Barry

I got it working. I changed the settings through the setup app from localhost to 127.0.0.1 and everything clicked.

Thanks again for all the help.

Good stuff! Thanks for reporting back.

I'll have to play with that setting when I get my virtual machines back up.
