mythtv backend Win 7 hardware drivers

I have mythtv backend running on Linux currently and it uses a HVR-2250. I would like to move that card to a Win 7 PC that is currently running MCE and uses Avermedia tuner cards. I know that in Linux my Avermedia cards are not supported.

Does the fact that Avermedia cards have Windows 7 drivers allow Mythtv Backend to work with them??

I'm hoping to combine all my tuners in one box under Mythtv so I can get the commercial skip feature that Mythtv does so well. Win 7 MCE doesn't do it.

Hi,
Maybe if you mention your specific Avermedia card, someone who uses it
will respond. It sounds like you've already been to: http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/AVerMedia
and found it's not supported. The existence of Windows drivers doesn't guarantee
Linux support.

Windows Device Manager list the tuner as:
AVerMedia A188C PCIe Pure ATSC

I also have a Avermedia M780, but it is a single tuner and is currently collecting dust.

I thought that once you had a Windows driver for a Device, the upper layer software would access the drivers for all those devices the same. Kind of like the other hardware in a PC.

I suppose that would be true if Microsoft exported the same API as Linux does for tuner devices which MythTV depends on. But Windows does not. And MythTV does not support the API that Windows uses (BDA) for tuners. While there are a couple of possible paths forward, until someone decides they have an itch (and the time to scratch), it is all just an interesting thought experiment [Should be noted that some other projects have BDA support, so it might be possible to leverage their work if you want to investigate it].
