Upgrading Debian replaces Mysql with MariaDB

Post by BEDavisBrown »

I installed mythtv .28 from source on debian jessie and I'm upgrading to stretch and this will replace mysql 5.5 with mariadb, I will do a mysqldump and a mythconverg backup pl just in case before the dist-upgrade plus all of my tuners are HDHomerun (let me know what other info I may have not included). Will there be any changes I need to make after or will all changes be done through the upgrade? Another option is dist-upgrade then clean install from source and import the DB backup into mariadb, but if I go that direction how are database schemas handled?

MariaDB is a compatible replacement for MySQL. MythTV won't know the difference. The upgrade process will move your database tables to MariaDB and you should not have to do anything. That being said, a full export before any upgrade is a good policy!
