Mythtv 31 on ubuntu 16.04
I want to be able to connect my ubuntu 16.04 laptop to my ubuntu 20.04 server with mythtv 31. So far, it doesn't seem possible. I installed the reporitory, but `apt-get policy mythtv-frontend` only shows 0.28 available. Is my only option to "upgrade" my laptop? I'm 75 years old and may not live long enough to straighten out the mess that would create.

Re: Mythtv 31 on ubuntu 16.04
I'm not running ubuntu 16.04, but I'd try 'sudo add-apt-respository ppa:mythbuntu/31'
Then 'sudo apt-get install mythtv-frontend'
I know this works on ubuntu 18.04 and beyond
BTW, I do have Xubuntu 20.04 running on an old Macbook Pro (2011) and it runs mythtv-frontend fine to a v31 backend
Then 'sudo apt-get install mythtv-frontend'

Re: Mythtv 31 on ubuntu 16.04
BTW, the Release notes on v31 talk about python3 being a requirement and maybe Ubuntu 16.04 will not support that? It's been many years since I've used 16.04.
Re: Mythtv 31 on ubuntu 16.04
My suggestion would be to first backup your current install using clonezilla, Then either try dist-upgrades to 18.04 and then 20.04, or just backup the data you need from from current system and then do a fresh install of 20.04. Another option would be to install 20.04 to an external drive and then boot from it when needed, or install 20.04 along side your 16.04 assuming you have disk space on the system. But whatever you do, do a drive backup first so you can always get back to square one.
